Here is a lovely saddle by Stubben, one of our all time favorite brands! The Stubben Romanus has not been made for many years, but is still a popular saddle among riders who appreciate the classical style. The Romanus allows for a closer contact feel, with less bulk under the rider’s leg, a lower profile block to support natural equation, while still having Stubben’s famed narrow twist. This one does offer a lower/hunter style seat as typical of classic dressage saddles. A true 17.5″ offering a semi-deep seat, with padding over the jockeys to help the rider not feel the buckle or stirrup bar-a design so popular, it’s still used today! Romanus saddles are designed to be more curvy through the tree, shorter panel, and shorter, less bulky flaps, and low profile gussets. When we say close contact feel, we mean it! Offers a slightly forward set flap that measures a 15.5″. Longer and lower profile blocks that don’t constrict the rider’s leg. Dressage billets with a center short billet, billets are sound. Stamped 31.5cm, which is Stubben’s Medium Wide/Wide (it’s hard to find the half size trees!), fitting like a Medium Wide. Gullet measures 5″, having a more upright tree with ample wither clearance and a moderate channel. Wool flocked, flocking has been maintained, shorter panel at just 19.5″. The older, German made saddles have a tendency to fade to a grey-ish color due to the type of leather and Stubben’s unique tanning process and this one has faded a bit. Honestly, its a really cool color! This is an older saddle, however has been well cared for and maintained. Shows typical signs of use and wear in the form of a couple scrapes and dings, but at this price you can’t go wrong. Great model that rides so well! We love Stubben’s and we know you will too!
