18″ Stubben Excalibur Monoflap Dressage Saddle

Here is a lovely saddle by Stubben, one of our all time favorite brands! The Excalibur Monoflap is a hard to find, discontinued German made saddle that has an incredible close contact feel. This one isn’t serialized and is a bit different than most of the Excalibur Monoflaps on the market, meaning this one is likely a prototype. So, will be going off of measurements. This one measures and fits like a true 18″, still offering Stubben’s very narrow twist, with a moderate deep seat. On what appears to be a Medium Wide tree, measuring 5″ with a moderately wide channel, low rear gussets and is wool flocked. Despite being a monoflap, this one has full flocked panels down the front. Also has skid row panels. True dressage flaps that are slightly forward set with a bold external long block that supports the rider’s leg well. The leather on the seat, jockeys, and blocks are from ‘Chèvre Crispe’ leather, which is a centuries old tanning process used on high textured leathers to better preserve it without the smoothing of many tanning processes. This light texturing really help with grip and security. This is an older saddle and clearly has been incredibly well loved by its last rider. While the leather is incredibly soft, it does have a bit of color loss on the seat. Has a few scuffs here and there, and a thin scratch that is quite visible on the near side block. At some point, this one has has new billets put on and had an ugly, but very functional repair to the billet points on the monoflap, having rivets set to reinforce the billet points with a calf leather wrapping added. Again, its quite an ugly repair, but very functional. Billets don’t have a ton of life left in them, but are not in need of immediate replacement. Flocking has been maintained, but is nearing the point of needing a reflock sooner rather than later.  Has a bit of surface cracking to a couple spots on the underside of the panel. This saddle is a really elegant, classic looking saddle that has all the quality you’d expect from Stubben. At this price, you can’t go wrong!
