5″ Vintage KR Bona Allen Sterling Silver Concho Curb Bit

$525.00

Bona Allen is well recognized, building some of the best saddles, harnesses, and leather goods at the turn of the century. His business carried on past his death, saddle closing in 1981. While he (and his company) are well recognized for their saddles, they didn’t offer very many bits or spurs. Some of the early catalogs offered these, very limitedly. This one is a bit of a mystery, but is a heck of a bit and is sound and still ready to ride. Marked with the easily recognized AB makers mark on the inside of the concho, and is marked with a maker’s mark “KR” on the mouth. There is a modern maker who uses the same mark, but given the age of this bit, they don’t overlap. We have been unable to find the maker of this cool bit. 5″ mullen mouth that is thinner in diameter, curved and quite similar to a Sweetwater curb. Offering ample tongue relief without correction. Large, 2″ sterling silver concho on the side, with raised sterling silver ridge down the full shank. Slightly swept back shank at 7.5″, loose rein rein. This bit is brilliantly balanced with a great feel. Minor condition flaws. Off side concho has a couple small dents, the raised sterling ridge on the shank have a couple nicks, but is tight and has had no repairs. Silver has some natural patina, which we have not shined, and minor surface rust (typical of iron bits). This bit is incredible, still ready to ride and is ready to be the crown jewel of your collection.
