Vintage Hitched Horsehair Headstall & Romel Reins

This is a really cool set with an incredible look! We wish we had more history on it, as its an absolutely stunning piece. The bridle is more of a bosalita/partial bridle, coming with a wider, flat noseband/caveson with metal ring at the bottom. Has a thinner browband with horsehair tassel, Vaquero style throat latch with dropped horsehair tassel, and wider cheeks/crown. What makes us think this isn’t a prison made piece is the cheek adjustment. Has a metal buckle with define holes for adjustment, which is not typical of prison hitches. The bridle DOES NOT have a bit hanger. The romel reins that come with this set are incredible, and while they match color wise, they are clearly a higher end piece and we’d bet those ARE prison made. Reins have horsehair buttons and tassels along them, with rein rings and added plaited rawhide rein hobbles to add on scissor clips for easy adjustment. Those add nice weight to the reins, too. The tail is round braided and quite substantial. Reins measure 40″ and are 3/8″ diameter, tail measures 34″ (42″ to end of popper) and are 1/2″ diameter. Stunning piece in very good used condition. Has a few smalls snags to the horse hair and a few places with some fly-aways, but a really cool set. Use it or add it to your collection, you can’t go wrong at this price.
